Like any modern-day man or woman, we’re fascinated by the idea of time travel. That's just one reason that we’re in love with The Ladder District’s newest restaurant and bar – Stoddard’s. And with major buzz by The Boston Globe, Boston Magazine, The Boston Phoenix, Stuff, and UrbanDaddy, it looks like we’re not the only ones time traveling to Stoddard’s for a speakeasy good time.
Built in 1868, Stoddard’s historic building was once a corset store (which now decorate the wall as you enter). 142 years later, Stoddard’s embodies the classic American age of culture, cuisine, cocktails and beer. Check it out for yourself with $25 for $50 worth of food and drinks.
Given 4 stars by The Phoenix’s discerning food critic, Robert Nadeau, Stoddard’s is an undeniable hotspot. The well-priced, seasonal menu offers American comfort food made with locally-sourced ingredients (we’re in love with the Aged Gouda and Cask Ale Fondue served with house made pretzels and hear their Sunday “Cask Ale Brunch” is the talk of Beantown). The choice of sips is extensive and varied—from an endless beer selection (25 beers on tap, nearly 100 bottles) to authentic 19th century cocktails made with recipes from the first cocktail book ever published. And the spot itself—with its 30 foot mahogany bar and walls lined with 1868 clapboard – is truly unique.
So hurry! Buy as many vouchers as you want, use 1 for every person at your table, and head to Stoddard’s to reawaken the grandeur of days past (no time traveling machine required).
