We’re not going to lie—we tried surfing once and found that our lack of upper body strength along with our inability to balance ended in a lot of wipe outs. So when Charles River Canoe & Kayak, Boston’s premier boat rental company, told us we could stand on the likes of a surfboard and paddle with a long canoe-like paddle, we couldn’t help but feel we’d found our calling in the way of water sports.
Paddleboarding is one of the hottest new sports this summer. It gives you the feeling of walking on water while you stand on a stable Surftech, Doyle or Tahoe board (perfect for first-timers and experienced paddleboarders) and paddle yourself around (can you say phenomenal core workout?). You may get wet, so you’ll want to wear your bathing suit and wait for a warm day, which shouldn’t be too hard considering all of the sweltering days we’ve had thus far.
Today you can head to any of Charles River Canoe & Kayak’s 5 locations—Cambridge, Boston, Newton Comm Ave., Newton Nahanton Park, and Natick—and get $25 for $50 worth of credit for Paddleboard rentals.
Paddleboard rates are extremely reasonable ($15/hour) and because you’ll have $50 worth of credit, you can paddleboard for up to 3 hours!

With a wonderful reputation, knowledgeable staff, and a huge selection of boats, it’s no wonder yelpers rave about Charles River Canoe & Kayak. You can buy up to two vouchers per package per person (four total), and just make sure if you buy the second package ($25 for $50 of any boat rental), you’re heading to the Newton Nahanton park location only.
This summer, there’s no better way to soak up the sun and get a great work out than boating, so grab those oars and get paddling.
